Holidays done Safely: Christmas Edition

We are back with more activities for those looking to celebrate the holidays while staying safe and healthy! As we love the holidays over here at Cedar Heights, we would love to list a few ideas for events/activities to partake in during this Christmas season. Read on to get more details on wonderful things to do during December:

  • Omaha Community Playhouse is streaming performances of the classic A Christmas Carol. Although there is a cost to stream this program, it is an OCP staple, and a welcome sight for those looking for a bit of normalcy this year!
  • Christmas at Union Station: An annual event at Durham with décor galore! It appears that admissions will be reduced, and masks requirements enforced, but another welcome return, and a great chance to see great exhibits with a festive twist!
  • Light Shows Aplenty: Take a look at many places in Omaha, such as the Old Market or Midtown for amazing and breathtaking light displays! It is good enough to make you feel warm inside, even in the midst of the winter cold. Werner Park even has a paid light show that is a drive thru, and honestly, that is our kind of holiday display!
  • Window Displays: We just found out that Chocolat Abeille’s in the Old Market has a window display that boasts… a real Santa and Mrs. Claus?! I can’t believe we even get to read that! They are positioned in the window in a snow globe and even pose for photos! Go pay them a visit on 12/19/2020 from 2-4 for a special and safe display that really comes to life in front of you!

This is only a taste of all of the things that you can do in Omaha for the holidays this year! So many shows/orchestras that are streaming performances, lights/trees/décor all over, and ways to still eat and drink all of your holiday sweets and treats responsibly. Take a look HERE for more! We at Cedar Heights wish you well, ask that you do your best to stay safe and hope that everyone has a joyous and happy holidays.

Cedar Heights Food Drive and More!

Cedar Heights and the Robert Hancock and Co. Family are pleased to be collecting food donations for Food Bank for the Heartland! Typically, each year we do a food drive to benefit charitable organizations in our community, but this year, we are doing it with a twist! Each week, we have orchestrated a specific type of item that we would like to see donated. Our first week was for cereals, our second was for items used in making peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, and this week, we have been working to get items that used in making Spaghetti! We think that these items will easy hold on shelves, and will make for easy meals for anyone in need!

As well, Robert Hancock and Co. is making a money donation to the organization that will be delivered when all food items from our communities are collected and dropped off. We know that food and funding are valuable donations that may really make a difference. Just as we want to make a difference with our residents, we want to be a force of good in the lives of those around us in the greater Omaha area.

We are almost to 1000 total items donated between all of our communities! With the help of our wonderful residents, we are really hoping to total or surpass this number before the end of the week when our contest ends! Do you believe we can make it? If so, please consider making a donation! Our office in particular has donation boxes stationed just outside our leasing office doors.

Thanks to all that have been helping us this year. Cedar Heights, as well as all Robert Hancock and Co. communities are so fortunate to have amazing support from our incredible residents.

Finally, Cedar Heights does have a couple one bedroom apartments coming available! We have one that will be available in December and one that will be available in January. Our apartments are in short supply, so if you, or someone you know are looking for a wonderful home to move into this winter, please contact our office! A wonderful community with excellent staff, we know that we will make a great destination for someone looking for their new home.

Celebrate October at Fall/Halloween Themed Locations

The Cedar Heights staff loves Fall. Honestly, it is a bit of an obsession, and we want to share that love and zeal with all of our guests and residents. However, things are a little different this year with what Fall locales are open, and what new requirements they have to keep people safe. Luckily, we are here to help! We will include some of our most anticipated places to visit this October (pumpkin patches, haunted attractions, etc.), and tell you what you will need to expect if you are planning on going to one of them! We want to keep you safe while allowing you a little piece of normalcy this Fall!

  • Vala’s Pumpkin Patch

Website: https://www.valaspumpkinpatch.com/

With all sorts of rides, attractions, apple orchard and pumpkin patch, Vala’s is a must see this and every season. In order to visit, you will need to wear a mask in all lines, on all attractions and in all spaces where adequate social distancing is not possible. They are also limiting capacity, and will cut off admissions if capacity is reached. So, if you are planning on attending, it is recommended to purchase tickets sooner rather than later!

Bellevue Berry and Pumpkin Patch

Website: https://bellevueberryfarm.com/

Another wonderful pumpkin patch with plenty of other activities to partake in! They are requiring masks for everyone attending, with the assumption that the mask is to be worn at all times unless eating or drinking. We are unsure about their occupancy or availability, so please check in with them via their website for more details.

Scary Acres

Website: https://www.scaryacres.com/

One of the few Omaha Haunted Houses that will be open for this Halloween Season. Their website details all of the safety precautions they are taking, but with a large set of grounds to accommodate social distancing, Scary Acres will be a fun, scary, and safe (please visit at your own risk) experience in October.

Haunted Hollow Scream Park

Website: https://www.hauntedhollowomaha.com/

Another large-setting Haunted House that will be open this October. They are taking the same precautions as Scary Acres, and boast many attractions and events. This should be another Haunt you will not want to miss.

Prospect Hill Cemetery Tour

Website: https://www.visitomaha.com/event/prospect-hill-cemetery-tour/34206/

A tour of a cemetery, full of spooky, interesting and intriguing tales? Sign us up!  These tours, which are happening all the way up to Halloween night, will be a great way to get that chill down your spine while also doing something educational and a little off the beaten path.

Trick or Treat Nights at Omaha Children’s Museum

Website: https://www.visitomaha.com/event/trick-or-treat-nights/34237/

Hooray for some safe, kid-friendly fun! On October 16th and October 23rd, Omaha Children’s Museum will be hosting Trick or Treat Nights, allowing children to take the O.C.M S.T.E.A.M wagon to different Halloween-themed activities. Pre-packaged candy and goodies will be given. Take the family for a fun night at one of Omaha’s most well-known locations! (The Durham Museum is doing something similar on October 24th and 25th!)

Thursday Theater in the Capitol District: October Films

Website: https://www.visitomaha.com/event/thursday-theater%3a-ghostbusters/34241/

For all the Halloween film junkies out there, the Capitol District is hosting a free screening of different Halloween movies through October. This will start tonight with the airing of the classic Ghostbusters! Keep on eye on the Capitol District for more information on what movie will be playing each Thursday!

These are just a portion of the activities you will find in the greater Omaha area during the month of October and for Fall 2020. If you would like more resources for exciting, fun, scary or relaxing things to do this Autumn, check the link out here: Omaha Events for Fall 2020.

We hope this will help everyone find something to do this year that is safe and fun! We know that this time of year is a big hit with many, us included, and although some things are not available to do in 2020, we want it to be known that there are still plenty ways to enjoy this time. Be safe, stay healthy, and Happy Fall!
