Recharging for the Holidays

With the holidays right around the corner, it’s easy to get caught up in the celebrations and forget to take care of ourselves. We’re certainly guilty of doing the same! That’s why we’ve put together five simple tips to help you make self-care a priority this season.

Tip #1: Set Realistic Expectations

The holidays do not have to be perfect for them to be meaningful. With trying to host family & friend gatherings, finding the perfect gifts for everyone, and making sure everything goes perfectly, it is easy to feel pressure. It is okay to simplify things during the holiday season to make everything more enjoyable. Make sure to focus on yourself and your loved ones.

Tip #2: Schedule “Me Time”

It’s easy to forget yourself while you are shopping, cooking, celebrating, and decorating. Even if it is 10 to 15 minutes a day, make sure to schedule time for just yourself. It doesn’t matter if you sit in silence, read a chapter in your new book, watch an episode of your favorite show. Moments like this can help you to stay present during the crazier moments.

Tip #3: Treat Yourself

This is the perfect time of year to reward yourself with everything you have done during the past year. You don’t need to treat yourself to something flashy or expensive, you can treat yourself to those things that bring you joy in that moment. Find your favorite bakery and have that treat you love, grab yourself that $8 coffee you have been dying to try, or even buy that book you have been eyeing. Celebrating yourself and all your achievements from this year.

Tip #4: Unplug

When thinking of the holidays, you think of time to relax and be with the ones you love, but it can also mean constant emails, calls and texts talking about upcoming celebrations. Try to take some time away from your phone, and we don’t mean completely unplugging and not responding to anyone. Try turning off all notifications while you are doing something you enjoy (like reading a book) or going out to a simple dinner with family and/or friends. Taking this time away from the screen can help improve your mood and you can be present for those around you and yourself.

Tip #5: Reconnect with What Brings You Joy

The holiday season, along with its colder weather, is the perfect time to reconnect with those things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Whether you love to paint, bake, read, create or whatever brings you joy. Making space for the activities that bring you joy makes you more excited for what is ahead.

We hope these tips help bring you joy, help you find balance, and some peace as we head into the holiday season. Remember to celebrate yourself and everything that you have accomplished throughout the year.

Wishing you a season full of rest, laughter, and meaningful memories!
