History of Aksarben Village

As Aksarben Village continues to expand we can’t help but wonder, “What was Aksarben Village originally?”

As many people know, Aksarben spelled backward is Nebraska (how clever!) and is becoming one of the biggest hotspots in all of Omaha. It previously was used for horse racing, which housed a grandstand and coliseum. Its first race was on July 6th of 1919.  It was ranked #9 in the country with a daily attendance of 13,655 in 1983. It closed in 1995.

In 1895, The Aksarben Ball was established. It was an organization that celebrated kindly people in the heartland that were involved with civic endeavors. The men, women and families who are recognized are courted Princess, Escorts, Pages, Standard Bearers, Court of Honor and Citizens of the Year.

Aksarben Village also used to be home to the Aksarben Stock Show. It remained the largest livestock shows in all of the United States after being established in 1927. Today, the Nebraska state Fair manages the organization.

Aksarben Village was also used to host concerts, ice-skating, sports games, and rodeos. Even today, Stinson Park has many concerts and events. Just a few months ago, Stinson Park hosted the MAHA Music Festival! It also houses the Farmers Market every Sunday morning, May through October.

Today, Aksarben Village is the place to be in Omaha. With its expanding businesses, it brings a lot of traffic to the area. There are many places to catch a bite to eat like Jones Bros Cupcakes, DJ’s Dugout, and the brand new Inner Rail Food Hall! You can see what movies are playing at the Aksarben Cinema. Pamper yourself at Aksarben Nails and take care of your health at the Genesis Health Club.
