Soaking up that summer sun is very beneficial for your mental health and your immune system! However, the sun can also be a dangerous thing. Its safe to say precautions need to be taken. Here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind while you are enjoying this season!
Keep Cool
Its important to keep your body cool. Drink lots of cold water, avoid peak temps, take breaks, rest in the shade or air conditioning and pay attention to the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The warning signs and steps to take for each are listed above.
Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is also very important for your body and can help prevent serious illnesses. WATER, WATER and MORE WATER. Our body needs it to survive and as we know the heat can dehydrate us quickly. As hard as it is, staying away from alcohol, sugar and caffeine and sticking with eating watermelon and drinking waters and drinks that replenish your Electrolytes. Symptoms of dehydration include but are not limited to:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Dry mouth
- Irritability
- Constipation
- Dark-colored urine
- Dry skin
Protect Your Skin
The final piece of the puzzle would be to protect your skin. Skin is one of the biggest organs we have as humans, yet it still gets forgotten. It is important to protect yourself from the UV rays the sun projects. UV rays can cause not only a painful sunburn but also skin cancer. Protecting your skin is worth it! Here are some ways to protect your skin this summer:
- Wear sunscreen with at least a 30 SPF but 50 SPF is recommended
- Make sunscreen part of you daily routine
- Wear a hat
- Make sure to still wear sunscreen on a cloudy day. That’s when it gets you!
- Wear protective clothing
- Wear sunglasses that filter UV light
